I received an E-ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved reading this memoir. I had immediately been drawn to it by the gorgeous cover of the mermaid in a wheelchair, a symbol I hadn’t seen before but which is carried throughout Hannah’s experiences.
Hannah writes with a raw honesty about her experiences as a queer, disabled, woman, and as a disabled woman navigating many of the same transition points in my life that she details, I found every word resonating deeply.
This memoir is an ode to disabled wisdom and joy, while not shying away from the painful realities of navigating a world not made for us, much like the mermaid who is carried through as a metaphor for disabled bodies and the way our society others us and tries to remove us from participating fully.
This is an energizing read for any disabled person navigating transitionary points in their life, but also a memoir that I think is deeply important for non-disabled individuals to read.
