Review: Why Aren’t You Dead Yet? by Ella T. Holmes (Release 07/21/2026)

I received an E-ARC of this novel from the publisher through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Before I had even read a synopsis, I was pulled in my this anthology’s title. When I realized it was an anthology of disability stories, set in dystopias, all I wanted to do was drop everything to read it. I really loved the addition of the posters for each story, I thought that it helped give a nice through-line to the collection and kept it from feeling as disjointed as other anthologies I’ve read. I was also grateful to see the shoutout at the end of the book for Artifice & Access, another anthology in this project that is a fantasy-based disability anthology which immediately has joined the top of my TBR list.

Standout stories for me included: “Cat and Mouse”, “Redheads”, “Mirror Image”, “Vermin & Whimsy”, and “The Storm Runners of Hatteras Island”
