Review: Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (Release 9/1/2020)

I received an Advance Readers Copy of Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas from the publisher in a giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

To start: I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to everyone! Thomas’s care for the characters and how their culture is depicted shines through in the writing. This is an own-voices queer trans latinx story. This is a story of joy, acceptance, and healing in a section of fiction that often tells darker stories with no happy endings.

Yadriel and Julian’s gradual shift from annoyances to allies to friends to lovers over the course of the book despite the fact that one of them is a ghost was so sweetly done and made the ending all the more powerful. I loved the twist at the end despite not seeing it coming at all.

Julian’s full acceptance of Yads for who he is, and trying to make him as comfortable as possible made me absolutely melt, and his little found family of people cast out by society just made me really happy.

This is definitely going to be one of my favorites if not my favorite book this year. Super immersive and wonderfully written, this is not a book that you want to miss.
