Review: Jeff Mach’s Villains, Villainy, and Villainpunk: Monstrous Microfiction (Released 1/10/2020)

“What happens if we put aside the light for a while… and let our eyes adjust enough to let us take a good look at the Shadows?”

I received this collection as an ebook through a giveaway on goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

Mirroring the Author’s sentiments, I would recommend picking up his actual novel, and reading these micro-fictions on his blog. However, if you like micro fictions and stories from the villain’s perspective, and don’t mind dropping a couple of bucks to support his work and make sure you always have access to these works, then by all means buy the ebook.

“Everybody damn well wants to be a villain; everybody secretly wants to do a heel turn, even Captain America.”

I really enjoyed the micro-fiction “What Do Villains Drink?” which appealed to exactly my sense of humor, and honestly sounded like something I would write as recipes being someone who is terrible at cooking too.

“They are scritchable demons, playful, predatory, mouse-tormenting, catnip-seeking.”

As the owner of multiple cats, “Why Cats Don’t Kill You in Your Sleep” was a fun story reflecting the horror of the tiny beasts that we share our homes with.

“I’m one of you. I’m a word-hoarder, too.”

This collection is definitely worth the read if you like villains, how you choose to read these stories is up to you though.
